Days after announcing his move to Haas F1 Team, Romain Grosjean has admitted that the team's relations with Ferrari partially persuaded him to move to the brand new team.
It's no question that Haas' links with Ferrari was a big push for Grosjean to move to Ferrari in 2017, if Kimi Raikkonen chooses to retire from Formula One. The original thought was for Jules Bianchi to take Kimi's place at the end of 2015 but unfortunately, that cannot happen. However, Grosjean looks to be the new favourite to step up into the spare Ferrari seat.
Of course we don't know for sure if Kimi will retire at the end of 2016 - many people thought he'd retire in 2015 before he announced his contract extension to 2016. Bearing this in mind, we can't assume just yet that Kimi will definitely retire in 2016.
At the moment it is hard to think of anyone other than Romain Grosjean taking the spare seat at Ferrari whenever Kimi decides to call it a day. Hopefully, Ferrari will still be as competitive or even more competitive in 2017.
